Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt held at gunpoint by police in kidnapping drama

By Lizzie Smith

Trauma: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt; the couple were held at gunpoint by armed police who mistakenly raided their Malibu home in January

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were held at gunpoint by armed police who stormed their home in terrifying scenes, it has been revealed.

The drama happened when an onlooker saw a veiled woman being rushed inside the couple's Malibu house by security men and called police thinking there had been a kidnapping.

Armed police responded to the 911 call, stormed the house and handcuffed the terrified couple while officers searched the property for the suspected victim.

However, it transpired the woman in the veil had been Heidi all along, trying to keep the result of her cosmetic surgery hidden.

The Hills stars had initially refused to open their door to police, attempting to convince them to wait for their lawyer to arrive.

'They yelled, "You don't want to meet the SWAT team",' Pratt told Radar.com. 'They said SWAT was on it's way and would break down our door if we didn't open it.

'Heidi had just had her surgery and she was really scared, she was crying.

'We didn't know who had called the police or why they were accusing us of kidnap. We were in the dark.'

The drama happened in January, a month after Heidi underwent ten plastic operations in one day.

The transformation was exclusively sponsored by People magazine and the couple had kept her face hidden to fulfil their contractual obligations to the publication

Raid: Police searched the Malibu house, after an onlooker mistook a veiled Heidi for a kidnap victim

In a video shot by Pratt during the incident, he is seen telling Heidi to put her hands on her head before he opens the door and drops to his knees.

Officers yell at him to get up, then force him back onto his knees. He begs them not to do the same to crying Heidi, telling them she has just had surgery.

But Pratt, who has only just revealed his traumatic experience, says he does not blame the police for what happened.

'Even though we hadn't done anything wrong, I have to say thank God for the LAPD, because they were on it,' he said. 'If something had really gone wrong they were there and handled it.'

Last week 24-year-old Heidi admitted she regretted her multiple surgery, which has contributed to the couple's perilous financial state.

The reality TV couple, who splurged on crystals, luxury cars, Heidi's plastic surgery and failed pop album, say they owe close to $2million in taxes and are considering filing for bankruptcy after blowing their $10million fortune.

But the money may not have completely dried up. They have been offered $100,000 to become the face of YouWager.com.

But there is one catch - they would have to move to Costa Rica
