I’m no 24-hour party person... get me out of here, pleads Shaun Ryder

Stressed: Shaun Ryder is struggling to live in such a small camp with so many people

Hard-living Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder has threatened to quit I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! - because he is exhausted from too much socialising.

Ryder, 48, who wrote the hit 24 Hour Party People, said: ‘I am finding the 24-hour socialising a bit of a struggle.’

He has trouble staying awake because of a thyroid problem and added that he finds it difficult to cope with ‘bubbly’ people.

Ryder also felt claustrophobic when producers introduced Alison Hammond, from ITV’s

This Morning show, bringing the number of camp-mates to 13.

They are crammed into a small space with not enough beds for everyone.

Ryder said: ‘Alison is a nice, bubbly, chatty lady but this changes my ball game.’

Struggling: Shaun tells Alison Hammond that his possible departure would have nothing to do with her

He said he was finding it difficult ‘not being able to do exactly what I want to do’.
But he has told Alison that if he leaves, it will have nothing to do with her.

A show insider said: ‘He knows his wife leaves for Australia on Monday to be near him and I think he’ll just walk out so he can spend time with her.’

But later Ryder admitted he had over-reacted. He said: ‘Yesterday I had lost the plot completely. I feel a little better today. Every day is a new day.’

Not such a 24 Hour Party People: Shaun says he doesn't have the energy for all the socialising

Meanwhile Britt Ekland, 68, has revealed that her former husband Peter Sellers proposed to her in a cleaning cupboard.

Tonight the celebrities start competing against each other to avoid being sent to the jungle jail.

In a game, they will have to hit a buzzer when a joey pops out of a kangaroo’s pouch. The fastest wins, losers get an electric shock.
