'He's just a cook': Gordon Ramsay launches latest verbal attack on Jamie Oliver as both meet their fans in Canada

By Daily Mail Reporter

Outspoken: as Gordon Ramsay made his remarks about Jamie Oliver in Toronto, Oliver was also in the city at a book signing

They're known for their mutual dislike of each other, but Gordon Ramsay re-ignited his war of words with Jamie Oliver on a promotional tour of Canada.

The 44-year-old made the reference to Oliver while making a public appearance in Toronto to launch his new range of cookware.

In between giving cooking demonstrations and signing items from the range for fans at the city's Hudson's Bay Department Store, Ramsay said that Oliver was "just a cook" while he proclaimed himself to be "a chef".

And he also joked that the 35-year-old - who sprang to fame on the TV show The Naked Chef - needed to "lose a few pounds".

Ramsay certainly has the credentials to prove his status as a chef - with several of his past and present restaurants including Murano, Maze and the now defunct Petrus - having been awarded Michelin stars, an accolade Oliver has yet to receive.

However Oliver does not have the financial problems Ramsay is currently facing, with reports this week that his company, Gordon Ramsay Holdings, is £17m in debt.

Coincidentally, as Ramsay made his comments, Jamie Oliver was also in town making a personal appearance.

Oliver met fans and signed copies of his transatlantic recipe book Jamie's America at the city's Indigo Bookstore.

The verbal feud between the pair has been on-going for some time.

Rivalry: but Jamie Oliver had no shortage of fans as he arrived at Indigo bookstore in Toronto

Last year, Ramsay admitted he was not a fan of Oliver, describing him as a "one-pot wonder".

'Everything kind of gets mixed in - hands in,' he said of Oliver's cooking methods. 'He sticks it in the oven, it comes back three hours later and it's done.

'We cook differently. I use basic ingredients taken up with a lot more excitement

Still popular: Oliver signed copies of his most recent book, Jamie's America, for his Canadian admirers

'But competition is healthy,' he added. 'It's good to have that kind of rivalry.'
Oliver said last month that he is not popular with several of the more prominent TV chefs.

Marco Pierre White hates me and Gordon Ramsay does not like me," he said. 'Ramsay constantly slags me off on the TV.'

He admitted there was "big big rivalry" between many of them.

'I'm not particularly competitive but we do annoy each other a lot,' he said, adding that most of the TV chefs were 'massively cruel to each other'.

As well as his ongoing war of words with Ramsay, Oliver also fell out with Pierre White - his former idol in the cooking world - after he branded him 'a fat chef with a drum kit'.
