La Toscana: A Rural Retreat, Inspired by Latin Flair

UPDATE : 2 November 2010

Dominated by hilly, rural landscapes, the central Italian region of 'La Toscana' (Tuscany) is considered by many folks to be a dream vacation destination. Its picturesque setting, featuring numerous farms and vineyards, has inspired literally millions of visitors over the years, including Ekavut Sabcharoen, who is the proud owner of La Toscana Resort in Ratchaburi province's Suan Phueng district.

Pride And Joy
Ekavut's resort also benefits from an inspiring setting, close to nature, within the peaceful village community of Pha Pok. Indeed, Ekavut ensured that local villagers experienced some sense of ownership by involving them closely in the construction of the resort

The exterior of the building and its surroundings certainly include strong Tuscan influences, from the handmade local brick and earthy, orange-colored roofs to the colorful shrubs and mountainous terrain that surround the resort. There are Italian influences inside the resort, too, as evidenced by the iron beds, wooden furniture and even the bedding.

Celebrity Status
But it's not only the Tuscan theme that attracts visitors. The resort has been featured a lot in the Thai media over recent years, generating a good deal of interest in its facilities and surroundings as a location for fashion shoots, music videos and TV programs.

When it comes to accommodation, you can choose from five options – a Party Suite, a Spa Suite, a Penthouse Suite, a Honeymoon Suite, or a Jacuzzi Suite. While all of these suites include one bedroom, one bathroom and a large bathtub or Jacuzzi, the layouts and designs differ markedly. For example, the Honeynoon Suite features a rooftop Jacuzzi, while the Party Suite (see photo, left) includes a large portico, which provides the perfect setting for a barbeque.

A Comfort Zone
The resort's suites include everything you'll need in terms of technology and entertainment during your stay, including a TV, DVD player and a WiFi Internet connection. Prices range from 3,500-7,500 baht (US$117-250) per night, which includes breakfast for two at the resort's Cucina Italian restaurant, which is located on the second floor of the lobby.

The resort also has plenty of bicycles, which guests can use for free to explore the surrounding countryside. If you're looking for a rather more robust vehicle, it's even possible to hire an all terrain vehicle (ATV [or quad bike]). If you want to get even closer to nature, it's possible to feed by hand an eager herd of goats that live within the resort's compound.

Guests at La Toscana can donate 99 baht ($3.31) to have a tree planted in a nearby forest and will then receive a special 'birth certificate' and a GPS coordinate, allowing them the chance to monitor the plant's development. The donation goes towards the villagers of Pha Pok, who are responsible for looking after the trees during their first year, so they can grow stronger and prosper over the long-term.

For further information, or to make reservation at La Toscana, contact Tel: +66 (0)84 456 2008, or visit the resort's official website at http://www.latoscana-resort.com.

Transport Connections:
Car: From Bangkok head along Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) towards Ratchaburi province. Once you reach Ratchaburi’s Muang district, turn right on to Route 3208, which will eventually lead you to Suan Phueng district. Once you reach a white kilometer marker (number '0'), you'll soon find the resort on the right-hand side of the road.
