Randy Poffo

A Statistical Analysis Of "Macho Man" Randy Savage's Halfway Decent Professional Baseball Career

The minor league prospect you see above you is Randy Poffo or as you may already know the late-great Macho Man Randy Savage.  He spent 4 years in the minors and seemed to be an alright player.  I just really needed to post the above picture.

1971 (Rk): .311, 63 AB (league average: .292)
1972 (Rk): .314, 168 AB (league average: .304)
1973 (Rk/A): .346, 177 AB (weighted league average: .286)
1974 (A): .261, 461 AB (league average: .278)

Another little know fact, The macho man is a graduate of Downers Grove North High School and both his dad and brother were pro wrestlers.

It seems like Randy wanted to go his own way and play baseball, which probably broke his father's heart.  Then 4 years into a promising baseball career young Randy got word his father had fallen ill.  Randy said "I know what I must do" and returned home to nurse his father back to health and found his true calling of being one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.

(ed note: that story is completely made up, but I bet if it got made into a movie you could still say "Based on a True Story")  Also the guy from true blood should totally play Savage in a movie

Angelo Poffo  -The Patriarch

Lanny Poffo - The wise older brother who was good but never had the natural talent Randy had and thats why he pushed Randy so hard.

Randy Savage - The Man Himself w/ Miss Elizabeth

-Les Anderson
