Lesser-Known Truths About Jose Rizal Revealed in Dokyu5’s ‘Bayani’ This June 19


For its initial offering, DOKYU5 presents the truths and controversies surrounding our most celebrated national hero in “Bayani: Isang Imbestigasyon sa Pagkatao at Pakikibaka ni Dr. Jose Rizal.”

Just when you thought all has been said about Dr. Jose Rizal, some accounts from manuscripts, historians and believers show that there are still less-publicized stories about the man, the demigod and the hero that is Rizal.

For its initial offering, DOKYU5 presents the truths and controversies surrounding our most celebrated national hero in “Bayani: Isang Imbestigasyon sa Pagkatao at Pakikibaka ni Dr. Jose Rizal” to be aired on the day when the country commemorates the sesquicentennial or 150 years of Rizal - June 19 (Sunday) at 10:45pm on TV5.

The documentary will take viewers to all accounts, written and non-written, from his birth to this day during which he is venerated by the world for the values, works and ideals he has managed to pass on from one generation to another.

Hosted by 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida, Jr. and three-time Palanca awardee Lourd de Veyra, the one-hour documentary gives viewers a different perspective for a more in-depth understanding of the life of Dr. Jose Rizal.

The kariton classroom teacher and CNN hero assures viewers that “Bayani” is not your ordinary Rizal documentary. “This docu is different because it will shed light to the controversies surrounding the life, love and heroism of Jose Rizal,” says to Efren, who also hosts the program that features modern-day heroes, Ako Mismo, on 24/7 news channel Aksyon TV Channel 41.

Through NEWS5, the news and information division of TV5, DOKYU5 is set to provide a refreshed perspective on issues that matter to Filipinos one compelling human interest documentary at a time.
