Hubert Webb Acquitted in The Vizconde Massacre Case


After 15 years of staying in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, Hubert Webb, the son of former Philippine Senator Freddie Webb sets free before noon today, December 14, by the Supreme Court.

Hubert who got involved in the controversial Vizconde massacre was proven "not guilty" in the murders of Estrellita Vizconde, and daughters Carmela and Jennifer in 1991.

NBP Director Ernesto Diokno signed the release papers after getting a copy of the order from the Supreme Court.

Hubert told reporters after his acquittal that he is thankful to God that his innocence in the rape and murder Vizconde family has finally come out.

"Since the very start, we said that we were innocent. We believed in the system that's why we underwent the process. We did not run. We are here for 15 years, 15 taon naming tinganggap. Kaya nagpapasalamat kami na lumabas din yung katotohanan."

He also said he has one prayer for those who still believe he is guilty in the massacre.

"Sa mga hindi naniniwala na ako'y inosente, sabay-sabay tayong magdasal na yung may kasalanan ay parusahan."

Aside from Hubert, other high-profile names who were charged with murder and got acquitted today are Antonio "Tony Boy" Lejano, son of actress Pinky de Leon; Michael Gatchalian and Miguel Rodriguez, sons of prominent lawyers; Peter Estrada and Dong Ventura, sons of businessmen; Pyke Fernandez, son of a retired commodore and Joey Filart, a relative of former Capital Region Command Chief Marino Filart.

Former police officer Gerardo Biong was released last month after serving his sentence.

Meanwhile, an emotional Lauro Vizconde cried and fainted after hearing about the acquittal of Hubert Webb and 5 others accused in the gruesome massacre of his family in June 1991.
