Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla tied the knot twice in Baguio City last Monday, September 13.
Jimmy Ong, who performed the one-and-a-half-hour first wedding ceremony, said the very simple private Mambunong wedding (from the Ibaloi tribe) ceremony started at around 3 p.m. at Camp 7 in Baguio City.
Mariel wore woven ethnic clothing while Robin wore a bahag during the native ceremony. Robin's youngest son Ali was present to witness the event.
Jimmy said he initially thought he was just attending a shooting, but was caught by surprise when he found the couple wearing traditional clothes of the Ibaloi.
"Tinanong ko si Robin kung kasal talaga ito. Sabi niya, 'Oo, kasal talaga.' Kaya sinimulan ko na," he said.
As part of the ceremony, Robin and Mariel put pig's blood on their faces, drank tapuy (rice wine) to symbolize their love for each other and performed the tayaw dance to show that they are officially married .
"Ang kasal na ito ay legal sa kultura ng mga Igorot....binasbasan ko sila na hanggang kamatayan magsasama sila," clarified by Jimmy.
Robin opted to marry Mariel in an Ibaloi ceremony because his mother, Eva Cariño-Padilla, is an Igorot.
The second wedding ceremony was officiated by a pastor in a private home in Baguio City right after their mambunong wedding ceremony.
