MONTICELLO -- A 49-year-old man is in Sullivan County Jail without bail after authorities say he showed up an hour and a half late for a court hearing on a felony DWI charge -- and was drunk and carrying an open can of Busch beer and four more cans in a bag when he went through the courthouse security check.
The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports that Keith Gruber of Swan Lake appeared Monday before Sullivan County Judge Frank LaBuda, who asked him if he enjoyed his "liquid lunch." Gruber said he did, then said he was sorry. LaBuda sent him to jail with no bail.
Well I need more information before I make a ruling here. I mean did he just drink the one he had opened or did he get to finish the other four in his bag. Cause if he just drank the one, I don't see the big deal since he wasn't driving. He probably just finished up lunch and was running a little late.
But if Gruber was sitting there listening to the judge, pulling Busch after Busch out of his bag and pounding them down, I could see how the judge would be upset. Thats a real dickslap to the face of America's judicial system. But again, if his not driving what was he jailed for? There must have been a no food or drink rule in the courtroom. Ya that must be it.
