One of the most awe-inspiring sights in religion: Hundreds of thousands of Muslims gather at Mecca for Ramadan

By Mail Foreign Service

Ritual: Hundreds of thousands of Muslims move around the Kaaba, the black cube at the centre of Saudi Arabia's Grand Mosque, during Ramadan on Sunday

They have come in their hundreds of thousands, all devout, converging on one of the world's holiest places.

This was the scene at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the birthplace of Islam, yesterday as Muslims around the world celebrated Ramadan.

The Grand Mosque houses the Kaaba, the most holy place in Islam, a square-shaped building that predates the religion itself. It is the Kaaba that Muslims around the world are facing when they pray towards Mecca.

Devout: Muslims around the world celebrate Ramadan - but the 27th night is the holiest of all as that is said to be when Mohammed received the verses of the Koran

I respect these folks for their devotion, not many hypocrites there. It really is too bad that the people of my country cannot, in unison, descend on Washington DC in the same great numbers, for the express purpose of making "real change".

To all the religion bashers .......

Science once believed the earth was flat, and would support killing those who thought otherwise. Science even believed the sun revolved around the earth! What kind of religion is this? One that is based on reams of data, educated guesswork, and a still strong militaristic propaganda force speaking on their behalf. Wake up you! The truth lies skillfully hidden between faith and science.
