Glum Spice: Why is Victoria Beckham never amused?

Smiling has never been a strong point.

But even by her standards, Victoria Beckham has been looking glum lately.

If these pictures are anything to go by, she’s failed to raise a grin in ten days – although there did appear to be a slight upturn of the lips at the start of this week.

Boredom could hardly be an excuse for the moody pouting.

The 36-year-old attended the Women’s Conference in California on Tuesday where she mingled with the likes of Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

But despite listening to A listers speak about a topic she knows something about – Girl Power – Posh couldn’t help but look distant.

By contrast, husband David, 35, has been all smiles out and about in Los Angeles. He enjoyed front row seats at an LA Lakers game where he looked happy as he chatted with teenage heart throb Justin Bieber between plays.

It came the day after the Beckham family attended the 16-year-old’s concert where onlookers said the star and his children – Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight, and Cruz, five – looked like they were having ‘the time of their lives’.

You would have thought a day out in the company of Matt Lucas might have helped lift Posh. She took the Little Britain star to watch her husband play for LA Galaxy at the weekend but once again appeared glum.

A recent night out with close friend Tana Ramsay – wife of Gordon – also seemed to leave her looking exhausted and harassed.


Nerves? Mrs Beckham, who carried a bag of her own design, looked serious at the event and was perhaps a little overwhelmed in the company of Oprah and Michelle Obama


Perhaps the pressure of having her life put back under the microscope hasn’t helped. The Beckhams’ marriage has been rocked by claims David slept with call girl Irma Nici.

The allegations – furiously denied – came shortly after he was named in a divorce battle between friend Shery Shabani, 33, and her husband Kambiz, 43 – who accused the pair of having an affair.

Both parties said there was no sexual relationship. Since then the Beckhams have been putting on a show of unity but, as Mrs Beckham’s face reveals, that can have its own strains.
