Aleenta Resort & Spa: Halcyon Days

By Nida Tunsuttiwong

While the famous beach resort town of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan province boasts an array of hotels and resorts, ranging from affordable budget options through to top-end, luxury developments, the neighboring district of Pran Buri is set within more peaceful surroundings, featuring hotel developments that are rather more modest and secluded.

Among Pran Buri's accommodation offerings is the exclusive Aleenta Resort & Spa, one of the country's leading boutique resorts and a proud member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) brand.

In the ancient Sanskrit language, the word Aleenta means 'a rewarding life'. The resort is sure to appeal to couples seeking a romantic getaway, as well as providing Bangkok residents with a perfect escape from the capital's hustle and bustle.

Overall, Aleenta might best be described as 'the ultimate retreat' since it affords easy access to a pristine stretch of beach, provides guests with a choice of authentic Thai and international cuisine, as well as offering a host of pampering opportunities thanks to its impressive KA Spa facility.

Decisions, Decisions
Aleenta offers two distinct accommodation options since the property is divided into two wings.

In the main wing, guests can choose from 10 unique luxury suites, each boasting an impressive ocean vista. A Pool Suite, for example, is a one-bedroom bungalow with a thatched roof, which also includes a private verandah and a jacuzzi.

A Penthouse is a larger, circular-shaped suite that includes a stone tub that's large enough to accommodate two, while a Beach House is a two-story bungalow, featuring a balcony and private rooftop sundeck. When it comes to the overall décor, white is the predominant theme within the main wing.

Within the property's Frangipani Wing, the décor features an earthier tone, somewhere between a reddish-brown and a brownish-orange color, resembling terracotta. This wing is substantially smaller than the main wing and guests staying here share access to a large communal pool. Each room in this wing either has its own private balcony or a sundeck, while they all benefit from a splendid sea view.

Rooms in both wings include an iPod dock and an iPod, featuring an extensive library of music, which includes literally hundreds of tracks. There is also complimentary WiFi Internet access throughout the resort.

Lots to do
While you can just kick back and relax all day long by the ocean, if you're looking to recharge your batteries, there are also plenty of activities available for more adventurous types, including morning Tai Chi classes, boat trips, kayaking, snorkeling and yoga, among others.

Nature lovers will be pleased to hear that there are several impressive waterfalls located near the resort, while the country's first coastal national park - Khao Sam Roi Yot ('Three Hundred Peaks') National Park - is just a short distance away. Golfing enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that it's possible to reach no less than six courses of international standard within a 40-minute drive of Aleenta.

When it comes to health and wellness, guests can check out Aleenta's impressive KA Spa (see photo, right). Located on the third floor of the main wing, guests can even enjoy an ocean vista as they are pampered by the spa's highly trained therapists, who have all received official certification from the Spa Association of Thailand.

Sterling Service
If you were to ask me what impressed me most during my stay at Aleenta, though, I would have no hesitation in responding, “breakfast”. While most hotels these days tend to provide guests with a buffet-style breakfast, Aleenta lets you order items for delivery to your room (or, in my case, a private, pool-side balcony).

While the mouthwatering portions were both generous and nicely presented, I'm certain you'll also appreciate the personal touch provided by this highly-original service.

For further information or to make reservation, call Tel: +66(0)2 514 8112, or visit the resort's official website at http://www.aleenta.com.

Please note that the company also operates Aleenta Resort & Spa Phuket-Phang Nga by Pilai (Natai) Beach in Phang Nga province.

Transport Connections:
Car: From Bangkok, take Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) to Pran Buri. Keep your eyes peeled for a sign for Route 3168. Once the opportunity arises, bear right and follow Route 3168 until you reach a minor road on your right-hand side. Follow this road, which runs alongside the beach, and you'll soon see Aleenta Resort & Spa on your left-hand side.
